化學(xué)與生態(tài)毒理學(xué)國家重點實驗室主任，中國化學(xué)會副理事長，中國毒理學(xué)會副理事長，中國化學(xué)會環(huán)境化學(xué)專業(yè)委員會主任，北京色譜學(xué)會理事長，系《環(huán)境化學(xué)》、《中國科學(xué)》、《科學(xué)通報》等雜志主編、副主編或編委和多本國際雜志副主編或編委。2005年受美國化學(xué)會委托領(lǐng)導(dǎo)成立了國際著名雜志ES&T的 Asian Office并獨立負責(zé)審理和錄用來自世界各地的稿件。研究領(lǐng)域涉及化學(xué)形態(tài)、分析儀器、環(huán)境過程與毒理、納米材料環(huán)境應(yīng)用及效應(yīng)等。提出并推進了我國持久性有毒污染物的研究，為兩期POPs 973項目首席科學(xué)家，國家基金委重大基金和創(chuàng)新群體負責(zé)人，國家973顧問組成員，國家納米重大研究計劃專家組成員，國家環(huán)境咨詢委員會委員，國家食品安全風(fēng)險評估專家委員會委員等。曾分別參加我國南極和北極科學(xué)考察。在國外SCI收錄雜志發(fā)表論文500篇，出版中英文專著5部。應(yīng)邀在國內(nèi)外重要學(xué)術(shù)會議和著名大學(xué)作大會報告或特邀報告350次。培養(yǎng)的研究生2人獲全國百篇優(yōu)秀論文，先后6次獲各種優(yōu)秀研究生導(dǎo)師獎。1998年獲得國家杰出青年科學(xué)基金，2001年獲得中科院青年科學(xué)家獎，2008年獲得香港浸會大學(xué)University Fellow, 2003年和2011年兩次以第一完成人獲得國家自然科學(xué)二等獎，2007年獲得長江學(xué)者成就獎, 2013年 獲得安捷倫公司“思想領(lǐng)袖獎”,同年以POPs研究集體名義獲得中國科學(xué)院杰出成就獎, 2014年獲得香港浸會大學(xué)“杰出客座教授”。2009年當(dāng)選中國科學(xué)院院士，2012年當(dāng)選發(fā)展中國家科學(xué)院院士。
